Celite (25 g) and pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC, 25 g, 1.5 eq, 0.12 moles) were added consecutively to a solution of commercially available 2-ethylcyclohexanol (10 g, 78 mmol) in 300 mL CH2Cl2. The resulting reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour after which it was filtered and concentrated on the rotary evaporator. The residue was purified by column chromatography using EtOAc/hex (1:2) as eluant to give 7.57 g (77%) of the title ketone. Spectroscopic data: 1H NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz) δ=0.89 (t, 3H, J=7.47 Hz), 1.18-1.45 (m, 2H), 1.63-1.89 (m, 4H), 1.99-2.42 (m, 5H).
