Procedure

A solution of product from Step C (3.88 g, 9.65 mmol), potassium t-butoxide (2.16 g, 19.3 mmol) in ethanol (100 mL) and H2O (5 mL) was heated at reflux for 3 hours. The reaction was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was partitioned between EtOAc and sat. NH4Cl. The organic layer was washed with H2O, and brine and then dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give title product which was sufficiently pure for use in the next step.
