Reaction Steps

Ethyl 4-(acetyloxy)-3-oxobutanoate (0.19 g, 1 mmol), prepared as described in (S. Husband, W. Fraser, C. J. Suckling, H. C. Wood, Tetrahedron, (1995) 51(3), 865), 3-bromo-4-fluorobenzaldehyde (0.2 g, 1 mmol) and 5-amino-1-methyl-1,2-dihydropyrazol-3-one (0.11 g, 1 mmol) in ethyl alcohol (3 mL) were heated at 80° C. for 24 hours in a sealed tube. The reaction mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure and chromatographed on silica gel eluting with 5% ethanol/methylene chloride to provide 0.1 g of the title compound. 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 1.03 (t, 3H), 2.1 (s, 3H), 3.46 (s, 3H), 3.92 (q, 2H), 4.95 (s, 1H), 5.12 (q, 2H), 7.18 (m, 1H), 7.22 (t, 1H), 7.38 (dd, 1H), 9.43 (s, 1H); MS (ESI−) m/z 468(M−H)−.
