Procedure
18.7 g (100 millimoles) of 2-β-phenylethyl-4-methyloxazole and 29.6 g (200 millimoles) of 3-methylsulfonyl-2,5-dihydrofuran are heated at 160° C. for 20 hours. The mixture is digested in methylene chloride and the residue is filtered off, digested in nitromethane and again filtered off. 10.5 g are obtained. Subsequent recrystallization from dimethylformamide gives pure 4-β-phenylethyl-6-methyl-1,3-dihydro-furo[3,4-c]pyridin-7-ol of melting point 248° C.
