A mixture of trifluoroacetic acid and water (TFA:water=19:1, 10 mL) was added to a solution of (S)-4-(5-bromo-pyridin-3-ylmethyl)-3-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (300 mg, 0.67 mmol) in 3 mL of dichloromethane and the resulting mixture stirred at ambient temperature for 1.5 h, and then the volatiles were removed in vacuo to leave 470 mg of product. LC/MS: Retention time, 2.13 min; (M+H)=351.
