Procedure
To a round bottom flask was added 3-chloro-4,5-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-6-hydrazinylpyridazine (3.0 gm, 8.2 mmol) and formic acid (15 ml). The reaction was heated at 120° C. for 2 hrs. The reaction mixture was cooled to rt, poured into water (100 ml) and solid precipitated. The solid was collected by filtration to give product 6-chloro-7,8-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-b]pyridazine as a grey solid (2.8 gm, 91% yield). LCMS (M+H)=376.9; 1HNMR (CDCl3, 400 Hz): 9.16 (1H, s), 7.38-7.40 (4H, m), 7.37 (2H, d), 7.15 (2H, d).
