2 g (10.1 mmol) Benzo[f]isoindole-1,3-dione was reacted with bromoacetic acid ethyl ester analogously to Example D-21a. The crude product obtained was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. Organic layer was washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and evaporated to give 2.68 g (9.5 mmol) of product. 1H NMR (200 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.36 (s, 2H), 8.05 (m, 2H), 7.68 (m, 2H), 4.49 (s, 2H), 4.22 (q, J=7.0 Hz, 2H), 1.29 (t, 7.0 Hz, 3H).
