A mixture of ethyl 5-{[3-chloro-4-[(2,4-difluorobenzyl)oxy]-6-methyl-2-oxopyridin-1(2H)-yl]methyl}pyrazine-2-carboxylate (1.03 g, 2.3 mmol) in 1N NaOH (3.4 ml, 3.45 mmol, EtOH/water 1:1 v/v) stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was quenched with 5% citric acid and filtered. The solid was washed with water and dried to afford the desired product (1.011 g, 100%) as a white solid. 1H NMR (CD3OD, 400 MHz) δ 9.02 (s, 1H), 8.60 (s, 1H), 7.60 (m, 1H), 7.04 (m, 2H), 6.55 (s, 1H), 5.50 (s, 2H), 5.30 (s, 2H), 2.52 (s, 3H); ES-HRMS m/z 422.0732 (M+H calculated for C19H15N3O4ClF2 requires 422.0714).
