Procedure

A mixture of intermediate (43) (0.019 mol) in methanol (150 ml) was hydrogenated with palladium-on-carbon (10%, 2g) as a catalyst. After uptake of 1 equivalent hydrogen, the catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated, yielding 4 g of (trans)-4-(aminomethyl)-1-[2-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)ethyl]-3-piperidinol (intermediate 44).
