Procedure

5 cm3 of thionyl chloride are added to 0.713 g (2 mmol) of 3-carboxy-1-(6-(trifluoromethyl)quinol-4-yl)-1H-indole under an argon atmosphere. After stirring at reflux for 2 hours, the reaction mixture is concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure (2.7 kPa), successively triturated three times with 20 cm3 of dichloromethane and then concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure (2.7 kPa) to give 0.85 g of 3-chlorocarbonyl-1-(6-(trifluoromethyl)quinol-4-yl)-1H-indole hydrochloride in the form of a yellow powder which is used directly in the following step.
