Reaction Steps
A solution of the enone from Step 2 (1.650 g, 3.7 mmol) in dry THF (40 ml) was cooled to −78° C. and L-Selectride® (1.0M in THF, 4.6 ml, 4.6 mmol) was added. The reaction was stirred for 2 mins then quenched with saturated NH4Cl solution. The mixture extracted with EtOAc (×3), the combined extracts were washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), filtered and evaporated. The residue was purified by chromatography (silica, 40-50% Et2O/hexanes) to give the ketone (1.473 g, 89%). 1H NMR (360 MHz, CDCl3) δ: 2.24 (1H, dd, J 4.9, 16.8), 2.57-2.70 (3H, m), 3.46-3.52 (1H, m), 3.58 (3H, s), 3.80-3.89 (1H, m), 4.57 (1H, dd, J 5.2, 14.2), 4.93-4.98 (2H, m), 5.10 (1H, d, J 12.1), 7.07 (2H, s), 7.26-7.41 (5H, m), 7.57 (2H, d, J 8.1).
