In a flask protected by a safety screen, a solution of N-t-butoxycarbonyl-4(S)-t-butyldimethylsilyloxy-2(S)-methane-sulfonyloxy methyl pyrrolidine(10.40 g, 25.39 mmol) and tetrabutyl-ammonium azide (8.18 g, 28.7 mmol) in toluene (250 mmol was stirred at 80° C. for 5 hr. The reaction was cooled to room temperature and diluted with EtOAc (250 mn), washed with water and brine and dried (Na2SO4). The solvent was evaporated in vacuo to afford the title compound as a yellow oil which was used in the next step without furthur purification.
