Reaction Steps

To a solution of 5.0 g of 3-amino-9-benzyloxy-2-(2-methylphenyl)imidazo[2,1-a]isoquinoline (Compound 40) in 100 ml of ethanol was added 0.5 g of palladium on activated carbon (Pd 10%). After introduction of hydrogen, the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was evaporated in vacuo. Resultant residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel and recrystallized from water/methanol to give 3.2 g of the title compound as pale yellow needles.
