Reaction Steps

Methyl thioglycolate (0.97 ml) was added dropwise to a stirred suspension of sodium hydride (0.434 g, 60% dispersion in oil) in dimethylformamide (30 ml). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. 13 ml of this solution was added to a solution of the product from step (i) (0.9 g) in dimethylformamide (20 ml). The mixture was stirred for 2 hours then quenched with aqueous arnmonium chloride and partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The organic phase was dried (MgSO4) and evaporated. The residue was purified by chromatography eluting with 50% ethyl acetate in isohexane. Yield 1.0 g.
