Diethylamine (1.0 mmol) was added to (S)-3-(9H-fluoren-9-ylmethoxycarbonyl-amino)4-(4-hydroxy-piperidin-1-yl)4-oxo-butyric acid tert-butyl ester in dimethylformamide (5 ml) at 25° C. After 1 hour, the reaction mixture was concentrated, the residue suspended in 1:1 ether/dichloromethane, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel eluted with 1-50% ethanol in dichloromethane containing 0.5% ammonium hydroxide. Yield 217 mg, 80%.
