To a solution of 4-acetylamino-5-bromo-2-methoxy-N-(2-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-5-yl)benzamide (0.888 g, 2 mmol) in ethanol (30 ml) and water (10 ml) was added 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide (1.25 ml). The mixture was heated at reflux for 1.25h before pouring into water and extracting with chloroform. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, concentrated in vacuo and the residue recrystallised from ethyl acethate to afford the title compound as a brown solid (0.062 g).
