A mixture of 4-chloro-2-(trifluoromethyl)quinoline 0.232 g (1.0 mmol) and 4-methoxy-N-methylaniline 0.137 g (1.0 mmol) in glacial acetic acid 3 mL was stirred at 100-110° C. for 24 h. The reaction mixture was directly subjected to gradient column chromatography (EtOAc/hexanes, 0% to 50%) to give the titled compound in 70% yield. 1H NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz): δ 8.11-8.08 (m, 1H), 7.62-7.58 (m, 1H), 7.58-7.55 (m, 1H), 7.27-7.22 (m, 2H), 6.97 (d, 2H, J=9.0 Hz), 6.84 (d, 2H, J=9.0 Hz), 3.79 (s, 3H), 3.49 (s, 3H). m/z: 333.2 (M+1).
