Procedure

A solution of 1 N boron tribromide in dichloromethane (3.4 ml) was added to a solution of (3-bromomethyl-5,6-dimethoxy-benzo[b]thiophen-2-yl)-morpholin-4-yl-methanone) (0.46 g) in dichloromethane (10 ml) at −20° C. Stirring was continued at 0° C. for one hour. Methanol was added and the mixture was evaporated to dryness. To the residue 5% Na2SO3 solution (5 ml) was added, the mixture acidified and the precipitate filtered.
