Procedure

To a stirring solution of methyl 2-[4-Boc-piperazine-1-ylcarbonyl]aminobenzoate (2.42 g, 6.7 mmol) in methanol (15 mL) was added 5 N sodium hydroxide (15 mL). After 45 min, the solution was partially concentrated in vacuo to a volume of about 10 mL and the solution was diluted with water and washed with diethyl ether. The aqueous phase was then acidified with conc HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate solution was then washed with brine, dried with MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give 2.03 g (87%) of an off-white solid.
