Reaction Steps

To a solution of tert-butyl 4-amino-3-[[N-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-N-phenethylamino]methyl]benzoate (2.3 g, 5.4 mmole) in CH2Cl2 (100 mL) at RT was added TFA (25 mL). After 12 hr, the reaction solution was concentrated to an oil and the residue dried under high vacuum overnight. The resulting residue was washed with hexanes and diethyl ether to afford the title compound (2.7 g, 5.4 mmole) as an off-white solid: MS (ES) m/e 271 (M+H-2TFA)+.
