Reaction Steps

To a solution of 5-amino-6-benzoylindane (160 mg, 0.68 mmol) in 6 mL of acetic acid and 0.6 mL of water was added sodium cyanate (53 mg, 0.81 mmol) and the solution was stirred at rt for 3 h. Water was then added to produce a suspension which was filtered and washed with water. The resulting solid was dried under vacuum to give the title compound (139 mg, 79%). 1H NMR (CDCl3): 13.25 (bs,1H), 7.80 (d, 2H), 7.70 (s,1H), 7.60 (m, 4H), 3.05 (t, 2H), 2.95 (t, 2H), 2.15 (p, 2H).
