Procedure
A stirred suspension of methyl 2-(2-dodecylphenyl)-2-[2-(tetrazol-5-yl)ethylthio]acetate (0.57 g, 1.28 mmol) in 10 ml of methanol and 8 ml of water at 70° was treated with 3 ml of 2.5N sodium hydroxide. After 30 minutes at 70°, the mixture was cooled, diluted with 10 ml of water and filtered. The filtrate was acidified, extracted with ethyl acetate, and the extracts were dried and the solvente evaporated. The residue was recrystallized from methanol and gave the desired product 0.415 g (74%). NMR (CDCl3 /Me2CO): 10.23-11.70 (broad, 2H), 7.52-7.62 (m,1H), 7.27 (s,3H), 5.04 (s,1H), 3.0-3.44 (m,4H), 2.63-2.92 (t,2H), 1.12-1.84 (m,20H), 0.62-1.02 (t,3H).
