To a solution of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-6-(methylthio)benzo[d]thiazole (240 mg, 0.82 mmol) in dichloromethane (20 mL) was added 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (77% in water, 710 mg, 4.11 mmol) over 5 min. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. 1M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution was added carefully, and the mixture was then stirred for 5 min. The organic layer was then washed with 1M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, dried over anhydrous MgSO4 and evaporated. The resulting solid was recrystallised from hot ethyl acetate to afford 125 mg (47%) of the title compound (LCMS RT=6.81 min, MH+ 324.0)
