Bromine (34 μl, 0.66 mmol) in THF (5 ml) was added to a solution of 5-acetyl-6-methyl-N-[4-(methylsulfonyl)benzyl]-2-oxo-1-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carboxamide (320 mg, 0.63 mmol) in THF (10 ml). After 2 h, the yellow colour had disappeared. The reaction mixture was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate, the organic phase was separated, evaporated, and the residue was chromatographed on silica using ethyl acetate/heptane (1/1, 2/1, 4/1) as eluent. Fractions containing the product were combined and evaporated to give the title compound (150 mg, 41%).
