Reaction Steps
Hexaethyleneglycol (11) (2.82 g, 10 mmol, 1 equiv.) was dissolved in CH2Cl2 (100 mL) under a N2 atmosphere, and silver oxide (3.48 g, 15 mmol, 1.5 equiv.) added followed by tosyl chloride (2.10 g, 11 mmol, 1.1 equiv.) and potassium iodide (332 mg, 2 mmol, 0.2 mmol). The solution was stirred at rt for 1 h then concentrated and filtered through celite eluting with ethyl acetate. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give a pale yellow oil which was purified by column chromatography on silica (ethyl acetate) to give 12 (3.79 g, 87%) as a pale yellow oil.
