Reaction Steps
A mixture of 4-chloro-2-fluorophenol (11.280 g, 77 mmol), ethyl 2-bromoisobutyrate (12.61 mL, 85 mmol) and cesium carbonate (37.6 g, 115 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (100 mL) was stirred at 55° C. for 18 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into brine, and extracted with ethyl acetate (2×250 mL). The combined organic phases were washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated. The crude product was used in the next step without additional purification. MS (DCI+) m/z 278 (M+NH4)+.
