Procedure

To a mixture of hydroxylamine sulfate (19.7 g) and water (250 mL) was added 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide (240 mL) at 0° C., which was stirred at the same temperature for 15 minutes. To the reaction mixture was then added dropwise a mixture of 4-(pyridin-2-yloxymethyl)-phenyl-acetaldehyde described in Manufacturing Example 2-3-3 (27.3 g) and methanol (250 mL), which was stirred overnight at room temperature. The precipitated solids were filtered to obtain the title compound (20.3 g) as an E/Z mixture.
