Reaction Steps

To an N,N-dimethylformamide (50 mL) solution of 4bromobenzyl bromide (5 g, 20 mmol) and phenol (2.26 g, 24 mmol) was added potassium carbonate (8.29 g, 60 mmol). This mixture was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. This mixture was partitioned into ethyl acetate and water. The organic layer was separated, washed with water, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under a reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by NH-silica gel is column chromatography (heptane:ethyl acetate=4:1) to obtain the title compound (4.69 g, 89%).
