To a solution of 8-vinyl-3,4-dihydro-1H-1-benzazepine-2,5-dione (2.6 g, 13 mmol) in EtOH (160 mL) was added 10% (w/w) palladium on carbon (260 mg). The reaction mixture was allowed to stir under an atmosphere of H2 (5 bar) at 70° C. until reaction was complete. The reaction mixture was filtered over Celite® and the filtrate was concentrated to give 8-ethyl-3,4-dihydro-1H-1-benzazepine-2,5-dione (2.4 g, 91%).
