To a 2-5 mL microwave vial fitted with a stirbar was added methyl 6-bromoquinoline-3-carboxylate (Int-1, 0.15 g, 0.564 mmol), 4-chlorophenylboronic acid (0.114 g, 0.733 mmol), sodium carbonate (0.179 g, 1.69 mmol) and tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (0.0651 g, 0.056 mmol). The vial was capped and 1,4-dioxane (1.6 mL) and water (0.47 mL) were added by syringe. The mixture was purged with argon for 5 min. The contents of the vial were heated in a microwave at 150° C. for 30 min. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and the vial was opened. The mixture was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The phases were separated and the aqueous phase was extracted twice with water. The extracts were combined, washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude residue was used as obtained in the following step. LC-MS: (FA) ES+ 298.
