The free base (23.75 g, 47.2 mmol) of 2-[4-[2-(benzimidazol-2-ylthio)ethyl]piperazin-1-yl]-N-[2,4-bis(methylthio)-6-methyl-3-pyridyl]acetamide was dissolved in ethanol (200 mL). Maleic acid (11.4 g, 98.2 mol) was added and dissolved under heat to prepare a homogeneous solution. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue was crystallized from ethanol-ethyl acetate. The crystals were collected by filtration to afford the title compound (30.95 g, 89.1%) as colorless crystals.
