1.12 g of 1-(5-trifluoromethylpyridin-2-yl)piperazin-2-one, 40 ml of THF and 0.87 ml of benzyl bromoacetate are placed in 1.5 ml of triethylamine in a round-bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic stirrer. The mixture is reacted under a stream of nitrogen overnight at room temperature. The solvent is evaporated off and the residue is purified by flash chromatography on a Biotage® column, using 1/1 hexane/ethyl acetate as eluent. 2.9 g of title product are isolated in the form of a white solid.
