Reaction Steps

A suspension of dicyclohexyl carbodiimide (2.00 g, 9.70 mmol), tert-butanol (1.00 ml, 10.6 mmol) and a catalytic amount of copper chloride (9.0 mg, 90 μmol) was stirred at room temperature for 24 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through a pad of celite, washed with CHCl3 (5 ml) and the solvent was evaporated under vacuum to afford 2.5 g (74%) of compound 2-tert-butyl-1,3-dicyclohexylisourea as a pale green thick liquid.
