Ammonia gas was passed into a solution of (1R,3S)-methyl 3-acetamidocyclopentanecarboxylate (180 mg, 0.96 mmol) in MeOH (5 ml) at −78° C. in a pressure bomb. The reaction mixture was slowly warmed up to room temperature and stirred for 18 h at 100° C. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 150 mg of (1R,3S)-3-acetamidocyclopentanecarboxamide as brown oil.
