To a stirring mixture of (2E)-3-(1-benzothien-2-yl)acrylic acid and Et3N (1.3 equiv) in acetone (0.22 M) at 0° C. was added isobutyl chloroformate (1.3 equiv). The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h. A solution of NaN3 (1.3 equiv) in H2O was added, the mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 0.5 h and then at room temperature for 0.5 h. The mixture was poured into H2O, stirred and filtered to give the title compound.
