A solution of 5-chloro-N1-methylbenzene-1,2-diamine (383 mg, 2.446 mmol) and 4-diethoxymethyl-pyridine-3-carbaldehyde (512 mg, 2.446 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (20 mL) was heated to 75° C. overnight. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel flash chromatography employing heptane-ethyl acetate (1:1) to give of 6-chloro-2-(4-diethoxymethyl-pyridin-3-yl)-1-methyl-1H-benzoimidazole.
