Reaction Steps

To a solution of the ester from Step 2 (1.53 g, 2.75 mmol) in THF (15 mL) and H2O (5 mL) at 0° C. was added LiOH hydrate (0.14 g, 3.30 mmol) and the solution was stirred 5 hours at 0° C. The solution was concentrated, the residue taken up in H2O, and the pH was adjusted to 4-5 with 1N HCl. The resulting mixture was concentrated and dried in vacuo to afford 1.65 g of the title compound as a white solid;
