Furan-2-sulfonyl chloride was prepared by the method of Example 1 with 4-bromo-3-methyl-2-aminoisoxazole (0.354 g, 2.0 mmol), NaH (60% oil dispersion) (200 g, 5.0 mmol) and 2,5-dimethylfuran 3-sulfonyl chloride (0.467 g, 2.4 mmol). Flash chromatography (5% CH3OH/CHCl3) and recrystallization from CHCl3 /hexane provided 0.21 4 g (32% yield) of light brown crystals (m.p. 85.5°-87° C.).
