Reaction Steps
0.5 g (1.5 mmol) of (RS)-3-(4-cyclohexyl-3-nitrophenyl)-5-methoxymethyl-oxazolidin-2-one (from the mother liquor of the foregoing reaction) in 75 ml of ethanol was treated with 100 mg of 10 percent palladium-on-charcoal and hydrogenated at room temperature for 5 hours. Filtration, concentration and recrystallization from ethyl acetate gave 150 mg of white crystals with m.p. 130°-132°.
