Reaction Steps
To a solution of 5-methyl-2-(1-piperazinomethyl)-2,3,6,7,8,9-hexahydrofuro-[2,3-f]quinoline-7-one (1.474 g) in pyridine (40 ml), a solution of 3,4-dimethoxybenzoyl chloride (1.003 g) in pyridine (20 ml) was added dropwise while cooling on ice. Subsequently, stirring was continued at room temperature for 1 hour. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure. The residue was combined with water, and extracted with chloroform. The extract was washed with sodium bicarbonate water and water in this order, and dried and concentrated. The residue was crystallized from chloroform--n-hexane to obtain 2.163 g of a free base of the title compound as colorless prisms (mp. 190°-191° C.).
