N,N-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (0.50 g, 3.3 mmol) and 4-methyl-7-methoxybenzotelluropyrylium tetrafluoroborate (0.60 g, 1.3 mmol) in 5 ml of acetic anhydride were warmed on a steam bath for 3 minutes. Acetonitrile (10 ml) was added and the reaction mixture was chilled. The crude product was collected by filtration and recrystallized from acetonitrile to give 0.34 g (44%) of a golden-brown solid.
