Procedure
The product from (b) (3.25 g) in potassium hydroxide solution (1 N, 20 ml) and ethanol (30 ml) was left at room temperature for 3 hours. Then further potassium hydroxide solution (20 ml) was added. After 45 minutes the reaction mixture was extracted with chloroform (5×30 ml), and the combined chloroform extracts dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated in vacuo to give 4,6-diethoxy-2-piperazino-1,3,5-triazine (3.0 g) as an oil. The product was characterized spectroscopically and used directly without further purification.
