Procedure

2.5 g. 1-(4-Benzyloxyphenoxy)-3-[3-(2,6-dimethylphenylamino)-propylamino]-propan-2-ol are hydrogenated in 200 ml. methanol in the presence of 0.25 g. palladium-charcoal (10%). The colorless oil (2.0 g.) obtained after suction filtration and evaporation of the filtrate is dissolved in ethanol. By adding an ethanolic solution of oxalic acid, the corresponding oxalate is precipitated out and recrystallized twice from ethanol. There is obtained 1.0 g. (45% of theory) of the desired product in the form of colorless crystals; m.p. 198°-199° C.
