Procedure
A solution of 4.5 g of 10 and 0.5 g of sodium hydroxide in 50 ml of aqueous methanol was refluxed for 2 hours. The resulting mixture was concentrated to dryness, the residue was acidified with dilute hydrochloric acid and extracted with ether. The extract was dried and concentrated. The residue was crystallized from ether-hexane to give 11, as a light tan crystalline solid, m.p.: 111°-112° C.
