Reaction Steps
A known compound 2,6-dichoro-5-fluoronicotinonitrile (60 g) in concentrated sulfuric acid was heated at 65°-75° C. for 1 hour. Water was added to the reaction mixture, which was then heated at 100°-110° C. for 2 hours to give 2,6-dichloro-5-fluoronicotinic acid (59.8 g), m.p. 155°-156° C.
