Procedure
To a stirred solution of 39.3 g (0.241 mole) 2-chloroethylsulfonyl chloride in 250 ml methylene chloride at 0° C. under N2, 63.09 g (0.75 moles) 2-amino-2-methyl-propionitrile was added dropwise over several hours. The solution was allowed to come to room temperature overnight and then was heated to reflux for one hour, was cooled to room temperature and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to give 44 g of a yellow oil. One half, 22 g, of the oil was chromatographed to give 21 g of the above-identified product.
