To a solution of 4.5 g (16 mmole) of 1,5-diphenyl-1H-1,2,4-thiadiazine-1-oxide of Example 1 in 225 ml of chloroform was added over 20 minutes a solution of 2.8 g, (7.5 mmole) of bromine in 25 ml of chloroform. After the addition was complete, the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes before reducing to an oil which was subjected to flash chromatography (SiO2, petrol:chloroform 1:1) to obtain 4.2 g of (73%) 6-bromo-1,5-diphenyl-1H-1,2,4-thiadiazine-1-oxide melting at 135°-136° C. after crystallization from ethyl acetate/ether.
