Procedure
To a suspension of 6 g (23.3 mmol) of (2-Carbamimidoyl-ethyl)-carbamic acid benzyl ester hydrochloride (1:1) in 60 ml of ethanol were added 0.93 g (23.3 mmol) of sodium hydroxide and 4.5 g (23.3 mmol) of ethyl 3-(4-pyrimidinyl)-3-oxopropionate (prepared by analogy to the method described in patent DE2705582). The resulting mixture was stirred under reflux for 12 h. The cooled solution was evaporated to remove solvent. The resulting mixture was treated with water and the precipitate was filtered, washed with diethyl ether to afford 2.7 g (33%) of the desired compound as a brown powder.
