To 414 g (2 mol) of butyl ethyl(3-aminopropyl)phosphinate (produced as in Example 6) are added 155 g (2.5 mol) of ethylene glycol and 0.4 g of potassium titanyl oxalate followed by stirring at 200° C. for 2 h. Volatiles are distilled off by gradual evacuating to leave 374 g (96% of theory) of 2-hydroxyethyl ethyl(3-aminopropyl)phosphinate.
