4,4-Dimethyl-1-piperidin-1-ylpentan-1-one (508 g) and toluene (1220 mL) were mixed. After an addition of (Ph3P)IrCl(CO) (802 mg) to the mixture, 1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane (795 mL) was added dropwise to the reaction under water-cooling. The mixture was stirred at RT for 3 hr, then concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (1171 g) as a crude product.
